Raiffeisen Crypto Access Could Reach 18 Million Customers

Raiffeisen Crypto Access Could Reach 18 Million Customers

Raiffeisen Crypto Access is moving closer to millions of European banking customers after Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) expanded its partnership with Bitpanda on September 23, 2026. The agreement creates a group wide framework that could allow Raiffeisen’s network banks to offer digital assets to around 18 million customers across Central and Eastern Europe. Instead of building every part of a crypto trading system itself Raiffeisen will rely on Bitpanda Enterprise for the required technology and infrastructure. This could make it easier for participating banks to add crypto services to their existing banking offerings. However, the agreement does not mean every customer can start buying crypto immediately. Each bank will determine its own launch plans and available products.

Raiffeisen Crypto Access Builds on the Bitpanda Partnership

The expanded Raiffeisen Bitpanda partnership builds on an earlier project in Austria. In 2024 Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich Wien introduced crypto access through its existing banking environment using Bitpanda’s technology. The latest agreement extends that approach to a wider regional network. Bitpanda Enterprise will supply the infrastructure that participating banks can use to introduce digital asset services. This business-to-business model allows banks to work with an established technology provider rather than develop an entire crypto platform independently. The plan could cover 11 European markets, but the rollout will happen gradually. Local regulations, customer demand and each bank’s decisions will influence when services become available. The 18 million figure represents potential reach, not the number of customers already trading crypto through the new agreement.

How the Partnership Could Reach 18 Million Customers

The agreement highlights how crypto trading in Europe is becoming more closely connected to traditional financial services. Customers may eventually be able to access digital assets through familiar banking environments instead of relying entirely on separate exchanges.

Here are the main details:

  • Potential reach: Around 18 million customers across RBI’s regional network.
  • Technology provider: Bitpanda Enterprise will provide the underlying infrastructure.
  • Regional coverage: The framework may support services across 11 European markets.
  • Local decisions: Each network bank will decide its launch date and product offering.
  • Existing example: Austria provides a starting point for the wider expansion.
Partnership detail What it means
Potential customers Around 18 million
Planned regional scope 11 markets
Infrastructure Bitpanda Enterprise
Rollout approach Gradual and market-specific
Existing model Austrian banking integration

Bitpanda Crypto Services and European Regulation

Regulation is another important part of this development. Bitpanda states that it holds authorizations under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCA). The framework sets common requirements for covered crypto asset service providers across the EU. Using an established provider may help banks address technical and regulatory requirements when developing new products. Still, a partnership does not automatically guarantee that every service will be available in every country. Local rules, product approvals and the structure of each offering remain important. For Raiffeisen, the arrangement also reflects wider digital asset adoption among established financial institutions. Banks can provide access through specialist infrastructure while maintaining their own customer relationships and deciding which products suit their markets.

What Raiffeisen Crypto Access Means for Customers

The immediate impact will depend on how quickly individual banks introduce their services. Customers should not assume that the full regional offering is already live or that every digital asset will be available. Fees, supported assets, eligibility rules and local availability will need to be checked when each bank announces its product. The bigger development is the growing connection between conventional banking and crypto investing. If the rollout progresses as planned, Raiffeisen could give millions of customers a new way to access digital assets through a banking relationship they already use.

Conclusion

The Raiffeisen and Bitpanda agreement is another step toward bringing crypto services into mainstream European banking. Its reach could be significant but the real impact will depend on local launches, product choices, and customer demand.
